Mae WYNNE MELVILLE JONES (WYN MEL) yn enw cyfarwydd yn sgil ei waith arloesol ym myd cysylltiadau cyhoeddus a'i ymwneud a mudiad yr Urdd.
Yn gyn-fyfyriwr celf bellach wedi wedi dychwelyd at ei ddiddordeb pennaf - celfyddyd gain. Mae'n gweithio o'i gartref yn Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn (Llandre) Ceredigion ac yn weithgar yn y gymuned, yn Gymro brwd ac yn Gardi balch. Sefydlodd y cwmni PR dwyieithog cyntaf yng Nghymru StrataMatrix yn 1979 a bu'n ei reoli yn llwyddiannus am 30 mlynedd. Mae'n Llywydd Anrhydeddus yr Urdd ac ef yw tad Mistar Urdd - y cymeriad trilliw sy'n dal yn fferfryn gan blant Cymru wedi 36 o flynyddoedd. Roedd e hefyd yn un o sefydlwyr y cylchgrawn wythnosol Golwg ac mae'n dal ei gysylltiad gyda Chwmni Golwg Cyf.. Wedi ail gydio yn y brwsh paent rhoddodd her i'w hun i baentio Cors Caron yn y pedwar tymor. Mae iconau Cymreig yn gyson yn dal ei lygaid a daw ei ysbrydoliaeth o'i fagwraeth yn Nhregaron ac o dreftadaeth a diwylliant y cymunedau yn y gorllewin. Does dim dwywaith bod harddwch Sir Benfro yn ei swyno'n fawr. Mae nifer o'i luniau wedi creu diddordeb ymhell y tu hwnt I Gymru. Mae ei ddarlun o Soar-y-Mynydd yn eiddo i gyn-Arlywydd UDA Jimmy Carter ac mae ei lun o Ynys Llanddwyn ym meddiant casglwr celf o'r Almaen. Mae ei ddarlun o Graig Elvis, Eisteddfa Gurig wedi creu cryn ddiddordeb yn America ac mae'r llun bellach yn Graceland Tennessee, cyn gartref Elvis sy nawr yn amgueddfa ac yn archif . Cyhoeddwyd ei hunangofiant Y Fi a Mistar Urdd a'r Cwmni Da gan Y Lolfa yn 2010 ac yn 2012 gwireddwyd un o'i gynlluniau arloesol pan agorwyd Llwybr Llen Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn. Mae'r llwybr a adeiladwyd mewn coedwig o eiddo'r teulu yn ddathliad parhaol o draddodiad barddol y fro ac mae ar agor i'r cyhoedd 365 y flwyddyn. Mae arddangosfeydd o'i waith wedi eu cynnal yn Aberystwyth, Abergwaun, Aberaeron,Tregaron, Y Bala, Llandeilo, Caerdydd a Llundain. Ei nod yw ceisio cyfleu cymeriad a naws unigryw Cymru drwy gyfrwng paent ar ganfas. |
WYNNE MELVILLE JONES (WYN MEL) became known throughout Wales as a pioneer of bilingual PR activities and for his involvement in Wales' largest youth organisation The Urdd. The former art student has now returned to his main interest - visual art. He works from his home in Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn (Llandre) in Ceredigion and he is active in the local community.
He is very proud of his roots in Ceredigion and feels a responsibility for things Welsh. In 1979 he established Wales' first bilingual PR agency StrataMatrix and ran the company successfully for 30 years. He is Honorary Life President of the Urdd organisation and he created the ever popular Mr Urdd character - a hot favourable with Welsh youngsters for over 40 years. He was also one of the founders of the weekly magazine Golwg and retains his place as a company Director. On returning to the paint brush he gave himself the challenge to paint Cors Caron, (the renowned nature reserve near Tregaron) in the four Seasons. He has also painted many Welsh cultural and heritage iconic sites and his inspiration comes from his upbringing in Ceredigion and from the rich heritage and culture of the various communities in Wales. His art has also generated interest way beyond the borders of Wales. His interpretation of Soar-y-Mynydd, the most isolated chapel in Wales is in former US President Jimmy Carters' art collection and his picture of Llanddwyn was bought by a German art collector. His painting of the Elvis Rock at Eisteddfa Gurig has generated considerable interest in the US and the picture is now at Graceland Tennessee former home of Elvis which is now dedicated as a museum and archive His autobiography Y Fi a Mistar Urdd a'r Cwmni Da was published by Y Lolfa in 2010.and another of his projects The Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn Poetry Path was officially opened in 2012. The Path celebrates the rich poetic tradition in the community of Llandre, has been built in woodland owned by the family, and is open to the public 365 days a year. Exhibitions of his work have been held in Aberystwyth, Tregaron, Fishguard, Bala, Llandeilo, Aberaeron, Cardiff and London. His aim is to capture the character and mood of Wales in paint on canvas. |

Mae darlun o graig adnabyddus ar fynydddir canolbarth Cymru sy’n cael ei ystyried yn deyrnged genedlaethol i Elvis Presley, i gael lle o anrhydedd yn Graceland, ym Memphis Tennessee.
Mae’r darlun o Wynne Melville Jones Eisteddfa Gurig- Craig Elvis yn cynnwys y graffiti adnabyddus Elvis a baentiwyd ar graig wrth ochr y ffordd fawr ac mae’r fangre bellach wedi ei henwi’n lleol yn Craig Elvis.
Cynyrchwyd nifer cyfyngedig o brint o’r darlun gwreiddiol a nawr mae copi ohono wedi ei gyflwyno i’r casgliad o femorobilia yn Graceland, y plasty a fu’n gartref i Elvis ond sydd erbyn hyn yn amgueddfa ac yn archifdy sy’n denu 700,000 o ymwelwyr yn flynyddol.
Mae Craig Elvis yn gyfarwydd i deithwyr ar ffordd yr A44, rhyw 10 milltir i’r dwyrain o Aberystwyth ger Eisteddfa Gurig, wrth droed Pumlumon Fawr, ac mae’n nodwedd amlwg ar y daith o Langurig i Aberystwyth ac wedi bod ers dros 50 mlynedd.
Fin nos yn y flwyddyn 1962, mentrodd dau lanc ifanc o Aberystwyth i’r gwyll tua’r mynydd gyda brwsh paent i baentio Elis ar graig er mwyn cefnogi Islwyn Ffowc Elis, ymgeisydd Plaid Cymru mewn is-Etholiad yn Sir Drefaldwyn yn dilyn marwolaeth yr Aelod Seneddol lleol Clement Davies.
Yn fuan wedi’r etholiad fe newidwyd yr enw i ‘Elvis’ gan un a dybir oedd yn ffan o’r canwr byd enwog ac yn ôl y sôn roedd Islwyn Ffowc, y llenor a’r gwleidydd rhadlon, yn ddigon bodlon i gael ei enw ar yr un llwyfan ag Elvis, Brenin y Canu Roc.
Cwbwlhawyd y darlun o Eisteddfa Gurig gan Wynne Melville Jones yn ystod y gwanwyn eleni er mwyn ei gynnwys mewn arddangosfa o’i waith yn Oriel Rhiannon Tregaron sy’n dathlu pum mlynedd o gynhyrchu celf.

ELVIS ROCK IN GRACELAND
An iconic Welsh rock on a remote hillside in Mid Wales is to have pride of place in Graceland, the former home of Elvis King of Rock, in Memphis Tennessee, which now houses the Elvis Presley museum.
The painting by Wynne Melville Jones features the famous roadside ‘Elvis’ graffiti and is known locally as the ‘Elvis Rock’.
Now, a limited edition print of this original painting has been presented to the Elvis Presley Archive at Graceland in Memphis, the famous mansion and home of the world’s greatest rock star which now houses the Elvis Presley museum.
The ‘Elvis Rock’ is located on the A44 some 10 miles east of Aberystwyth, in the upper reaches of the Cambrian Mountains and has been a popular roadside feature for travellers for over fifty years.
On a dark night in 1962 two young boys from Aberystwyth ventured out to the hills with a paint brush to daub the name Elis in support of Islwyn Ffowc Elis, the Plaid Cymru candidate in the Montgomeryshire constituency. A by-election had been called following the death of local MP Clement Davies.
Soon after the election the name was changed to Elvis, assumedly by a fan of the world renowned rock and roll entertainer. It is said that colleagues of the distinguished and good natured politician and literary figure Islwyn Ffowc Elis felt at the time that the author was quite pleased to be put on the same stage as the King of Rock.
The canvas painting by Wynne Melville Jones was completed earlier this year for an exhibition to mark five years of artwork. The original picture entitled ‘Eisteddfa Gurig – Elvis Rock’ is one of 56 paintings by the artist currently on show at the exhibition at Oriel Rhiannon in the market town of Tregaron
Since retiring in 2011 works from his studio at his home in Llanfihangel Genau’r Glyn / Llandre near Bow Street in Ceredigion. His picture of the most remote chapel in Wales, Soar-y-Mynydd near Tregaron, is in the art collection of former US President Jimmy Carter.
“I regularly travel on the A44 and the Elvis Rock is a familiar site, and it’s a welcome home landmark on my return journey as I approach my home county of Ceredigion, the county boundary is just round the corner from the rock
“With the graffiti on the rock having been undisturbed for half a century it is now regarded as a Welsh national tribute to Elvis and I feel that Graceland is the natural home for this picture
The original painting Eisteddfa Gurig – Elvis Rock is currently on show in the exhibition at Oriel Rhiannon Tregaron. The picture has been purchased last week by a private buyer but it will remain on display at the Gallery until the exhibition closes on 2 July 2016.. Limited edition A5 prints are available.

Mae’r ddau gapel, Tabernacl a Bethel ym mhentref bach Tal-y-bont, Ceredigion wedi eu codi gan ddau enwad gwahanol. Mae’n nhw’n dweud llawer wrthom ni heddiw am hanes crefydd Gymreig yn ystod y ddwy ganrif ddiwethaf.
Rhaid parchu’r ffaith i’r adeiladau hyn gael eu codi mewn cyfnod gwahanol iawn a dyw’r hynafiaid ddim yma bellach i ateb ein cwestiynnau. I ni heddiw yn y Gymru gyfoes, mae’n ymddangos yn syniad bisâr i godi dau gapel mor fawr ac urddasol drws nesa i’w gilydd. Byddai un capel wedi gallu ateb anghenion holl boblogaeth yr ardal yn y cyfnod hwnnw. Mae dau addoldy arall yn y pentref hefyd.
Mae’n awgrymu i ni bod yna gystadlaeaeth frwd rhwng yr enwadau a bod adeiladau mawr a chrand yn ffordd o gyfleu delwedd a dylanwad a grym crefydd. Ai dyma ddechrau’r ymlyniad rhyfedd at adeilad sydd yn ganolog yn ein crefydd heddiw.Erbyn heddiw mae’r adeiladau hyn yn mynd yn drech na’n gallu ni i’w cynnal. A yw’n etifeddiaeth deg i genhedlaeth heddiw o addolwyr, i ysgwyddo baich mor llethol er mwyn cynnal temlau sy’n anaddas ac sy’n rhy fawr?
A fyddai Cyngor Ceredigion heddiw yn rhoi caniatad cynllunio i godi dau gapel mor fawr mewn pentref mor fach?
Mae capeli Tal-y-bont o bensaerniaeth arbennig. Mae Tabernacl wedi ei addasu’n dŷ byw ac mae’r achos yn Bethel yn parhau.
The two chapels, in the small village of Tal-y-bont, Ceredigion, Tabernacl and Bethel were built by two different denominations of the Christian faith. They speak volumes of the history of Welsh nonconformity over the last two centuries.
We respect that these buildings were erected in a different age and the forefathers are no longer with us to answer our questions. Today, in modern day Wales, it seems bizarre to build two large and impressive chapels next to one another. One building would have been adequate to accommodate the local population at the time. There are also two other places of worship in the village.
It suggests a strong element of competition between chapels. Large and grand buildings project an image of importance and influence. Could this be the source of the strange attachment with religious buildings in this day and age? Today, these large buildings have become a huge strain on resources, well above our means to maintain. Is it a fair legacy to burden today’s generation of worshipers with such a huge responsibility in bricks and mortar in these difficult times.
Would Ceredigion Council, today authorize planning permission for the construction of two large religious buildings on this site in Tal-y-bont?
The chapels at Tal-y-bont have a distinct an architectural style. Tabernacl has now been converted into a dwelling house and the cause in Bethel continues

Mae Watch Cottage ar gyrrion pentref Trefin yn enghraifft dda o'r math o adeiladwaith sy'n nodweddiadol o Sir Benfro. Mae nifer o enghreifftiau o fythynnod a ffermydd tebyg i'w gweld hwnt ac yma ar hyd yr arfordir ac yng nghefngwlad y Sir.

Cawsant eu codi wedi'r rhyfel fel adeiladau syml rhwydd i'w hadeiladu er mwyn cadw cnydau ac yn ddiweddarach er mwyn cadw anifeiliaid dan do. Mae eu hoes bellach yn dod I ben ond mae'n ddiddorol gweld y defnydd gwahanol a wneir ohonynt pob un i'w bwrpas ei hun. Mae siap crwn y to hefyd yn torri ar symylrwydd unffurf adeildau ffermydd.

This picture of a Dutch Barn is one of a series I've painted. These buildings are a familiar site all over West Wales. They were built as a utility after the war in order to provide a quick build for storage of crops and later as shelter for animals. Their day's are now numbered and its interesting to see how these buildings have been adapted to meet the individual needs of people. The curved roofs of these buildings add another dimension to the simple design of farm outbuildings.

Brwydr Bryn Glas,Pilleth oedd un o lwyddiannau mwyaf byddin Owain Glyndwr yn erbyn y Saeson. Yn ystod y frwydr waedlyd ar 22 Mehefin 1402 llabyddiwyd cannoedd lawer o fyddin Lloegr. Yn ol y son, aeth gwragedd y milwyr Cymreig o gwmpas cyrff meirwon y Saeson a'u llurginio . Cafodd y frwydr effaith andwyol ar lywodraeth Lloegr am gyfnod hir ac mae cyferiad at y frwydr yn Henry IV William Shakespeare - Rhan 1.

The Battle of Bryn Glas, Pilleth was one of the great successes of Owain Glyndwr's Welsh army against the English.. This bloody battle took place on 22 June 1402 and many hundreds of English soldiers were slaughtered. It is said that the wives of the Welsh soldiers obscenely mutilated the dead bodies of the English. The battle caused considerable disruption in the English government for some time afterwards and the battle is mentioned in William Shakespeare's Henry IV Part 1.
Pilleth lies on the Welsh border near Presteigne in the Radnor countryside in Powys. On the sloping hillside next to S. Mary's Church Wellingtonia trees have been planted to commemorate the Battle. It is an eerie and a striking feature on the landscape. A visit to the site will linger in one's memory for a long time. |

This painting of Llanddwyn has been sold to a German art collector.
Ynys Llanddwyn, on the Anglesey coast is known as the home of Dwynwen- the Welsh Patron Saint of Love. Dwynwen's feast day is celebrated annually on 25 January and an increasing number of Welsh couples now opt to celebrate Dwynwen's Day rather than the more familiar St Valentine's Day in February. Wynne said that when he was working on the painting it had crossed his mind that some Welsh sweethearts could be interested in it. "Llanddwyn is an important place for Welsh lovers and I never imagined the picture would find a home in Germany - but I suppose that's business", he said |
